Email (@cs.queensu.ca)

The following information can be used to set up an email client app on a personal computer, tablet, or phone.

Incoming mail (IMAP)

• Server: innovate.cs.queensu.ca
• Port: 993
• User name: Your cs user ID (do NOT include @cs.queensu.ca)
• Connection security: SSL
• Authentication method: Normal password

Outgoing mail (SMTP)

Your new settings should be:

• Outgoing server (SMTP): hermes.cs.queensu.ca
• Port: 587
• Encryption type: STARTTLS (iOS and older mail clients just give the option for SSL, select that but be sure to use port 587.)
• User name: Your cs user ID (do NOT include @cs.queensu.ca)
• Password: USUAL_PASSWORD

Please note that unless your account was created in the last year, you will likely have to update your password on CISC to make use of this service. To do this, do the following:

• ssh CISC_USERID@innovate.cs.queensu.ca # where CISC_USERID is the user name you have been assigned
• passwd

You will have to change your password. If you want, you can immediately run passwd again and change it back, but unless you actually change your password, albeit briefly, it will not be re-encrypted to work with the new server.

For the moment, I will be leaving our old system in place. However, I will be shutting that down by April 30, 2018. After that time, you will have to send mail through hermes.cs.queensu.ca.

Use your cs user ID (WITHOUT adding @cs.queensu.ca) to access your mail.
